Why Commissioning for Mining and Heavy Industry is Unique
Commissioning in mining and heavy industry sectors is notably different from other industries due to the scale, complexity, environmental factors, safety requirements, and operational integration involved. Mining and heavy industrial facilities (e.g., smelters, steel mills, refineries) are massive in size and involve multiple interconnected systems. These systems must be commissioned both independently and as a whole, with end-to-end validation across disciplines. Mining projects typically divide commissioning into several tightly managed stages: dry, wet, live, and ramp-up. Each phase must be documented and often involves regulatory or investor sign-off. Commissioning teams must coordinate closely with safety, operations, and environmental groups and follow robust, auditable processes. Start-up procedures are co-developed and transferred to operations. Projects are often in remote, environmentally extreme locations (deserts, mountains, arctic zones), which affects commissioning in several ways.
The other platforms we considered were too rigid, requiring us to overhaul our existing workflows. Bluerithm's flexibility allowed us to adapt it seamlessly into our existing workflows while also maintaining the ability to meet the needs of a wide variety of projects.

Right now, we see the biggest time savings during project close-out and final reporting. We used to put together final reports by hand. Thousands of pages. It took us a week to gather the forms, categorize and link them properly, etc. Today, all of that organization is done already. We're saving a week or two just on final reporting.

From Clipboards to Closeout: Digitizing Commissioning at Remote Mine Sites
Digitizing commissioning isn’t about “going paperless.” It’s about making commissioning resilient when the jobsite is chaotic and the network is unreliable—while still producing clean, defensible turnover packages at the end.
